Halloween Toddler Safety
Going out trick or treating might be a new experience for you and your
toddler (especially if this is your first child). Making the most of this
time by playing it safe by using some of these Halloween safety tips.
- Use reflective tape on your toddlers costume, or choose lighter colors
that can be noticed in the dark. If you are pushing a stroller add
reflective tape to that too.
- Give your toddler a glow stick to hold, or wear around their neck.
Parent supervision is always required. This would be for your older
toddlers, little ones might try to chew on the glow stick.
- Watch for the length of your toddlers costume, you do not want them
tripping and falling down. Also make sure the costume is flame-retardant.
- Only go trick or treating to homes where you know the occupants. Check
with your church, local malls, and parks to see if they are hosting any
special events on Halloween.
- Buy or make a trick or treat bag that will be deep enough for the candy
not to spill out and easy for your toddler to hold on to.
- Check all candy before letting your toddler eat any. Throw away
suspicious or opened candy. Avoid giving your toddler hard candies in
which they can choke.
- Have fun, take pictures, and create some special memories!
